I found your web page doing a search for Christian men’s groups and have read and resonate with many of the articles. I am looking for the equivalent kind of group here in the LA area. I live in Malibu and work in Camarillo. (added: Malibu is essentially west northwest of LA. Camarillo is in the southern part of Ventura County). Do you know of any similarly minded groups or have any friends down here that would be interested in starting/joining one? Thanks for your help.

I have found that usually the men’s groups are run or flavored by the professional church leadership and that due to the nature of church affiliation or some agenda it’s been difficult to get to a real level of intimacy, accountability, or gut level honest sharing among the men - certainly not as reflected in JHM’s vision statement.

A couple weeks ago John and I shared a couple emails and unfortunately I've taken pretty long to get this out to you.

 

For those on this list who have attended any of our gatherings, you know that our group meets John's desire - too bad he lives so far from us! Maybe he'll be up this way some time and we'll get the chance to meet. Or, and maybe better still, one or more of us will be down his way and can meet with him!

 

I am hopeful that no matter who you are, no matter where you live, you might know of someone who shares John's desire and lives in his area (If you have any questions on the area, I might be able to help as I had lived directly north of Malibu in 1984 and worked fairly close to Camarillo in Newbury Park).

 

The emails above from John are simply edited pieces by me. I love email and truly found John's ability to express himself in written form to be great. I've also had the opportunity to share intimately with close friends via email and found that to be a great medium. What I'm getting to is the idea to at least touch base with John. I believe our Lord works in marvelous and sometimes mysterious ways, so who knows, an encouraging email might turn into something you would never think of!

 

It starts like this - one guy's vision, sprinkle in God's desire, add in at least one other guy and things can grow from there.

 

So please consider whether you know anyone in that area of Southern California who might share John's vision/desire and please let him know.
